Ottumwa Students Bring Classic American Play Our Town to Life

The Ottumwa Community School District Theatre Department invites the community to experience a timeless piece of American theater as students take the stage in Our Town, the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Thornton Wilder. This production is student-directed by Oliver Hernandez Norris, highlighting student leadership and creativity in the performing arts.

First performed in 1938, Our Town explores the everyday lives, relationships, and mortality of residents in the fictional small town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire. Known for its minimalist and meta-theatrical style, the production features a bare stage, pantomimed props, and a unique “Stage Manager” character who guides the audience through the story while interacting directly with them.

This challenging and thought-provoking production showcases the talent and dedication of Ottumwa students, who have worked diligently to bring depth and authenticity to the play’s universal themes.

“Our students have done a remarkable job with this very difficult play,” said director Jeff Leonard. “We can't wait to welcome you all to visit Grover's Corners with us!”

Performances will be held in the Ottumwa High School Auditorium, 501 2nd St E, on the following dates and times:
  • Friday, April 24 at 7:00 PM
  • Saturday, April 25 at 7:00 PM
  • Sunday, April 26 at 2:00 PM
Tickets can be purchased online through Bound, or at the door. Ticket prices are $20 for adults, $15 for students.

Community members are encouraged to attend and support the arts while experiencing a powerful story that continues to resonate across generations.
